Job details
As a Business Analyst in the Service and Experience Design team you will support the delivery of service design sprints by bringing technical experience, hands-on business analysis capability across discovery, design and delivery phases. Working under the direction of the Sprint Lead, the role is responsible for leading complex analysis activities, shaping sprint outputs and ensuring business needs are translated into actionable, evidence-based design options.
The role operates in ambiguous, fast paced environments, requiring strong judgement, initiative, and the ability to engage widely across frontline, operational, policy, regulatory, and technical stakeholders.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver complex business analysis activities within service design sprints to inform problem definition, solution options and decision making
  • Elicit, analyse and validate business and user requirements through workshops, interviews and analysis with stakeholders at all organisational levels
  • Develop and maintain high quality sprint artefacts, including current and future state process maps, service journeys, impact and benefits analyses
  • Translate business and service needs into clear functional and non functional requirements for technical and delivery teams
  • Identify and escalate risks, issues and assumptions affecting sprint outcomes and support mitigation planning with the Sprint Lead
  • Support implementation readiness by contributing to testing, validation, transition and business change activities


Essential criteria

  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously to analyse complex problems and deliver practical, evidence-based solutions in ambiguous contexts
  • Proven experience engaging, influencing and collaborating with a diverse range of stakeholders, from frontline staff to senior executives
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills, including process analysis, service design thinking and structured problem solving
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex information to technical and nontechnical audiences
  • Experience working in agile or sprint-based delivery environments, with a strong focus on practical delivery outcomes
  • Ability to prioritise competing demands, manage risks and maintain momentum within tight timeframes Sound judgement and professionalism when working with sensitive information and organisational priorities


Desirable criteria

  • An understanding of government service delivery, policy development, regulatory or operational environments is desirable
  • Familiarity with accessibility, inclusive design and APS context is desirable
  • Familiarity with digital and non-digital service channels and ICT-enabled service delivery is advantageous
